THE SPACE

PRODUCTION MATERIALS

Each of the spaces that can be found in B.E.T.A.'s headquarters were constructed with a modular approach in mind. This means that instead of having ready-made rooms imported into the game engine as singular objects, levels were created in-engine using architectural models that could be repeated seamlessly to create an environment. This modular design approach gave the team's level designers freedom to edit the layout of each level, and allowed them to exercise their creativity in constructing both simple and complex interior structures without having to model numerous custom pieces.

The lighting, textures, and infrastructure assets used to decorate Out on a Limb's environments were all created, chosen, and placed with the intention of creating an immersive, believable, and captivating experience that allowed the player to leave their old reality behind, and fully envelop themselves in a new one. Realistic textures created using Quixel Mixer and obtained from Quixel's Megascans Library took inspiration from real-life industrial spaces and were intended to help ground the player in their new reality, while multi-coloured vibrant light fixtures were intended not only to provide light to the space, but to immerse the player in a futuristic mindset that coincided with the team's chosen Cyberpunk visual theme. Furthermore, large industrial-looking infrastructure assets were placed throughout the game environment to give more life to each space and help to immerse the player in their new reality even further.
